Matt Miller has written a wonderful, in-depth article about using Snapchat in the classroom. While I was on vacation, I was mulling over how to use Snapchat to impart learning. During that trip, I capture my trip with daily Snapchat stories. In this post, I shared what Matt had written in a Snapchat story.
Snapchat Stories
As an instructor, I think the power of Snapchat is in the stories. A story is a collection of 10-second snaps that occur over time. Typically, you would create a story over a 24 hour period.
Once you create a story, you could download the story to your mobile device and then subsequently, upload a story to YouTube, Facebook, etc.
Snapchat in the Classroom
Here is an example of a story I created with Snapchat that highlights Matt Miller’s “15 Ways to use Snapchat in classes and schools“. Definitely, read his article for more details.
Once I finished creating this story, I downloaded it to my phone and then uploaded it to YouTube so I could embed it in this post. If I wanted, I could also share the video in a Blackboard course.
Instructor Ideas
Snapchat should a be a fun way to communicate ideas. If it is too much like “school”, you may turn students away.
I have found that Snapchat is a great way to live in the moment. You can share information about your field of study in a non-threatening way. Comment on an issue, take students on a field trip or show students how to do something.
Student Ideas
Snapchat is also a great way for students to show off what they know. They can create a mini-movie using Snapchat stories. They can walk you through a task with their own how to. Students can also show a day in their life. They could also report on issues of the day.
